Helping Your Child During The Relocation Process

Published by rns under Family Relocation Tips

Relocating can be stressful on anybody, but for most children it is a life changing event. As a family it is important to make your relocation as comfortable as possible for everyone and to keep a special eye on your children, even while you have plenty of moving responsibilities of your own.

One of the best ways to help your child welcome the idea of moving is to show them as much as you can about Orlando before hand, so they know what to expect and have something to look forward to. Showing pictures to your child of your new house, their new school, ball parks, dance studios, whatever your child is into, will help give them a better idea of what Orlando is like.

Once you finally relocate to Orlando, it is important to take the time to introduce your child to all of the places you showed them before. When you have a break between painting and unpacking boxes, drive around and show your child their new school, local library, and local recreational areas like parks and lakes. It is also nice to visit some of the unique places Orlando has to offer like the Orlando Science Center or the Orlando Museum of Art. By acquainting your child and family with these new places it helps your new area feel more like home and gives your children something to talk about with their new friends at school. It is easy to put such outings on the backburner since other responsibilities may feel more immediate, but helping your child adjust to their new area is something that will pay off in the long run. It usually takes about six months to a year to finally feel at home in your new area, so help  that process move along faster just by taking a few extra hours during your move to help your child feel more comfortable.

Fun Stuff to Do Once You Relocate to Orlando …Other than Disney World

Published by rns under Orlando Recreation

Once you relocate to Orlando, you might begin to wonder what are some fun things to do that don’t involve Disney or SeaWorld? Don’t get me wrong, the theme parks are great, but there are plenty of other things to do that don’t involve people dressed up in costumes. You should enjoy the perks of your new location, so here are a few ideas to help you get started.

If you are looking to do something one-on-one with nature, head down to Wekiwa Springs State Park and take a trip down the Wekiva River in a canoe or kayak. The trip takes a couple hours, but is well worth the journey and is a great way to learn about the native plants and animals of your new homes region. Once you move to Orlando you will discover that there are plenty of rivers to paddle down, so purchasing a kayak or canoe is also a fun investment for your family and home and a great way to become more familiar with the area.

If you like to be outside, but aren’t so much into wildlife there are plenty of neighboring cities that are easy to get to from your new home that have unique, historic buildings and quaint shopping centers. Winter Park is built around its historic Rollins College and has streets with plenty of shops and restaurants for you to stroll along and relax. After all your unpacking is finished, treat you family to a day trip to historic St. Augustine! St. Augustine is very similar to Winter Park, except that it houses one of the oldest forts and school houses in America. If you have recently relocated to Florida or are planning to in the future, this is a great place to learn some of Florida’s history and have fun at the same time.

There are plenty of places in Orlando for you to explore and have fun, that don’t cost a fraction of what a theme park would cost. If you are looking to relocate to the Orlando area or have recently moved here, please check out all of the relocation services that I offer for free on my website.
