Are you ever bored in your current city?? Well, here in Orlando, there are so many things to do that don’t even cost that much money! Often when people think about Orlando, Florida, all they see is their wallet dwindling down. Although there are a lot of things to do on the expensive side, there are also many lower cost things to keep you occupied.

Here is a list of what I came up with for fun for people of all ages:
· Ripley’s Believe It or Not
· Gatorland
· Lake Eola
· Orlando Science Center
· Orange County Historical Center
· Winter Park Historical Museum
· Universal’s City Walk
· My Art Studio
· Orlando Art Museum
· Downtown Disney
All of these places offer different forms of entertainment at little to no cost! So if your reservation of Orlando is the cost, you now have no excuse and there is SO MUCH to do!!

Go ahead, take a leap of faith and relocate to “The City Beautiful,” Orlando, Florida.

I got thinking to myself….”what’s so great about Florida?” For some of us who have been here our entire lives, it’s hard to see what is so fun & interesting about Florida. As I was browsing the web today, I cam across this article that has 9 Things to Know Before You Move to Orlando. This link is from 2007, so it’s a little dated, but still has some great information.

One Tip, don’t be alarmed by the Disney prices she quotes in the blog. In fact I think Disney has dropped their prices for Florida residents, AND I believe that they are coming out with a monthly payment schedule in early 2011. Enjoy the article.

I would like to share with you some insider information about living in Orlando, Florida. When ever you move to an new area it takes some time to get adjusted and learn all the “local secrets” that make life so much easier, safer and more affordable.

That being said, many of you Orlando “Newbies” might be wondering what is up with the weather. Yes, our weather can be absolutely gorgeous throughout the winter and spring months, but come summer and it can/will rain everyday. It can rain in your front yard and not in your backyard. We have hurricanes, tornadoes and the lightning is most likely unlike anything you have ever experienced.

Most of our afternoon weather is due to the colliding of the western and eastern sea breezes which usually meets in the middle of the state..right over Orlando and Central Florida.

Here is some need to know Florida weather info:

1) We are the lightning capital of the United States. More people are struck here than in any other part of the US. Do not take a shower, wash dishes, or partake in any other activity that requires using water during a storm. Many people have been struck by lightning while taking a bath. Stay away from windows. If you are caught out in a storm do not seek shelter under a tree or other tall isolated object. The best thing to do is get inside a secure building as soon as you hear thunder in the distance. Lightning often strikes long before it even rains.

2) Buy a weather radio to alert you when severe weather is approaching. Central Florida has had an increasing number of damaging tornadoes. Check Accu Weather for great local weather info.

3) If you are planning a trip to the beach and it starts raining before you get there, you don’t have to go back home. Ninety percent of the time if you just keep driving the weather will be beautiful at the beach!! Although the weather in Florida can be severe it rarely lasts long.

4) When it comes to hurricanes, you will have plenty of warning and time to prepare. My best advice to people who have just relocated to Orlando and have never experienced a hurricane is….LISTEN TO AUTHORITY. If you have been warned to evacuate your area, please listen. So many people end up in life threatening situations because they didn’t listen to the warnings. Hurricanes are extreme and can last for hours and hours. Prepare to be without electricity and water for days…even weeks. A little planning and prep goes a long way when it comes to surviving the storm and it’s aftermath. Please see Hurricane Survival for more info.

I have received several questions regarding the wildlife in the Orlando. Understandably, people relocating to the Orlando area have more than reasonable concerns regarding the wildlife and the safety of their family and pets.

Our client Mary whom just relocated from New Jersey asked this question:

“I am relocating to Orlando for business in the fall. I have a 50lb dog. I have heard awful stories about alligator attacks on dogs, should I be worried?”

To answer Mary’s question, there are dangerous native animals such as venomous snakes, alligators, felines, bears and some insects. It is always good to be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your children and pets.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission offers these Florida wildlife safety tips.

Never feed dangerous wildlife. Feeding wildlife accustoms them to humans and is a certain death sentence for bears, alligators and other species.

Making simple accommodations will often solve the problem of marauding raccoons and other critters. Remove the free meal attractant by feeding pets indoors, installing baffles on bird feeder poles and fastening trash cans lids with rubber straps.

Additional modifications, like constructing a bear-resistant garbage can caddy and securing compost piles, gardens and beehives behind bear-resistant electric fencing, will discourage black bears.

Bringing pets inside at night will keep them safe from hungry predators.

Cover possible entryways with hardware cloth to exclude squirrels, bats and other animals scouting out your home for a safe place to raise young.

Please read for more information on living with Florida’s wildlife

Buying and selling property is not simple. It is even more complicated when the property is in another part of the country! Relocation Networking Solutions will work with you, helping to make your dream of relocating to Florida a reality.

When you relocate to the Orlando area consider the cost of commuting. Many people working in Orlando live twenty or thirty miles outside of the city limits and commute back and forth every day. Gas prices are right around $3.00 per gallon and once you factor in the cost of parking downtown you could be taking a big hit to your weekly budget.

Some good news if you do decide to buy a home well beyond the Orlando area is that soon the Florida SunRail will be coming through promising relief from the traffic on I-4 and rising gas costs. Having lived in other cities that had a light rail system, I think it will be a nice addition to the Orlando and Central Florida area.

Along with all of the other things you have to consider while planning your relocation, consider your commute and factor the expenses into your budget. At RNS we work with many wonderful Realtors that can help find you the right home for your budget and location.
Relocation Networking Solutions’ has assembled a respected team of industry leaders who work together to streamline the process, making your dream a reality.
